Indian team entered into the quarterfinals of World Women Hockey Championship with a 3-0 win over Italy at the Lee Vally Hockey and Tennis Centre in London.
Lalremsiami (9′), Neha Goyal (45′) and Vandana Katariya (55′) were the goal scorers for India. Lalremsiami put the team ahead in the ninth minute and Neha Goyal made it 2-0 in the 45th minute. Vandana Katariya put the issue beyond doubt nine minutes later through another penalty corner strike. Navjot Kaur won the team’s first penalty corner in the ninth minute.
Fortunately, Italy were slow to take up their positions and India took advantage by taking consequent long corner quickly.The first goal proved crucial as it seemed to completely collpase Italy’s confidence. India was more comfortable and played with much more purpose compared to previous games.
India will face Ireland in the quarterfinals on Thursday and our team is hoping to take up the semifinals for the first time since 1974.
