Heavy rain created havoc in the state, claiming the lives of 22 people and causing destruction to the properties in the past 24 hours on Thursday.
Ten people including, five of a family from Idukki, five from Malappuram, two from Kannur , three from Wayanad and one from Kozhikode was dead in the landslides and rain related accidents.
Four teams of National Disaster Resource Force has left Tamil Nadu for Kerala to assist the rescue and relief operations.
Fire force and policemen are enagaged in the rescue and relief operations. Army, Air Force troops have been sought for additional rescue efforts.
Continous rain in the state has increased the water level in the dams. Shutters of Idukki Cheruthoni dam and Idamlayar dam were opened . Authorities has directed the people living along the banks river Periyar to stay alert.
