Due to continous raining the water level in the Idukki Cheruthoni dam further rised to 2,401.50 ft and fourth shutter of the dam was opened and large amount of water is flowing out. Moves are going to open the fifth shutter of the dam. The maximum capacity of the dam is 2,403 ft.
The middle shutter was opened by 50 cm on Thursday. The second and fourth shutter were opened to 40 cms on Friday morning.
District collector informed that 1,20,000 litres of water will be released per second. And by 2pm there is a chances of releasing 6 lakh litres of water per second.

People resides on the banks of Periyar river and Cheruthoni river have been alerted. The water level in the dam is increasing due to heavy rainfall. The low lying areas of Ernakulam is also alerted.
Destructions due to landslides are reported in several parts of Kannur, Malappuram, Idukki and Wayanad districts.
