Atleast 25 people had died in the rain related accidents in different parts of Kerala. Indian Meteriologoical Department has predicted very heavy rain in next 48 hours in eight districts- Alappuzha, Kannur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram ,Kozhikode and Wayanad.
High alert has issued in Idukki district following the rise of water level in Idukki dam. The water level has reached 2,401.22 ft which is near to the total capacity of the dam. The two shutters of the Idukki Cheruthoni dam were opened at 7 am on Friday. It was opened by 40 cm.
People have been evacuated from the flood hit areas . Schools and educational institutions were shut in several districts of the state.
“A depression has formed off the coast of Odisha, and it is now moving in the northwesterly direction towards Madhya Pradesh”, IMD Director K Santhosh said.
Army and disaster management troops are in the spot to undertake rescue and relief operations. Camps are set up at various parts of the state.
