The seven convicts of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case cannot be set free, said the government to Supreme court today. The Centre said that, the Tamil Nadu’s proposal of setting them free is not acceptable.
The convicts have been in jail for 27 years. The CBI , which investigated the case opposed the release of the convicts, Centre told to the apex court.
The court has asked the central government to respond to the Tamil Nadu’s request to release the seven convicts. The court has ordered in 2015, that the convicts cannot be released without the consent of the central government.
“Releasing of killers of former PM will set a very dangerous precedent. The case has been decided by various forum of judiciary and executive and the prisoners donot deserve to be set free” said th Centre in its report.
