Anshdeep Singh Bhatia, a Ludhiana-born has become the first Sikh to have been conscripted into the security team of US President Donald Trump. It was in last week that Anshdeep was inducted after he completed his grueling training in US.
During the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the family of Anshdeep shifted to Ludhiana from Kanpur. He even lost his uncle and close relatives after the frenzied mob stormed into their house in Kanpur’s KDA Colony in Barra. In second week of November, his aunt’s marriage was scheduled and family was busy with making arrangements.
Even, Devendra Singh, the father of Anshdeep was also injured in the attack.
Later, his grandfather Amreek Singh Bhatia, manager with Punjab and Sind Bank opted for a transfer to Ludhiana. His father married in Ludhiana and was into the pharmaceutical business in Kanpur. Later they shifted to US with his family in 2000 and Anshdeep was 10 at that time.
Always, Anshdeep dreamt of becoming President’s security and one day he stumbled upon a block when he was told he would have to change his looks. However, he moved court against the riders and the verdict came out in his favour.
