Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away on Sunday morning at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. She was 64 and was suffering from a chronic kidney disease. The reason for her death is liver failure.
Reportedly, Kalpana Lajmi’s brother said that “She passed away at the hospital at 4:30 am. She was suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. She was on dialysis. She has been in and out of the hospital for three years. The last rites will be possibly conducted today,”
Kalpana was known as a director, producer and screenwriter and was famous for her real subjects. The films by Kalpana often had a woman at the centre. Some of the popular works include Rudali(1993), Daman(2001) and Darmiyan(1997).
Kalpana’s last movie was Chingaari that was released in 2006 and it was based on the novel The Prostitute and the Postman by Bhupen Hazarika. The Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanada Sonowal took to Twitter and wrote, “Saddened to learn about the demise of veteran filmmaker #KalpanaLajmi ji. Her contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered forever.”
