Prithvi Shaw became the youngest Indian to score half century in the debut test, on Thursday. The 18 year old batsman achieved this feat in the first test of the two match series against the West Indies at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The record was earlier owned by Abbas Ali Baig in 1959, when he scored half century against England in Manchester at the age of 20.
Prithvi Shaw was the 293rd player to represent India in Tests. He also became the second youngest Test debutant opener for India. At the age of 17, Former Cricketer Vijay Mehra made his Test debut and opened India’s innings.
In the test against West Indies, India won the toss and opted to bat first. With the support of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shaw is heading towards his debut- century. Cheteshwar Pujara 67 for 87 balls and Shaw scored 93 for 94 balls. India now at 170/1.
