The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Congolese gynaecologist Dr. Denis Mukwege and Yazidi human rights activist Nadia Murad . They are awarded the prestigious prize for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.
Dr. Denis Mukwege,a gynaecologist treating the victims of sexual violence, he has spent an important part of his life in helping the victims of sexual violence, he and his team has treated thousands of people who have been subject to such assaults in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ms. Nadia Murad, a human rights activist was one among the 3000 Yazidi girls and women who were the victims of rape and other violence by the Islamic State.
After the escape from Islamic State, Nadia Murad suppressed all her sufferings and shown uncommon courage to come back to the life and she founded an organization Nadis’s initiative to “helping women and children victimized by genocide, mass atrocities, and human trafficking to heal and re-build their lives and communities”.The 2018 Peace prize is includes 9 million Swedish kronor ($1.01 million).
