Many researchers have tried to ask a commonly asked question that is, “Why do women live longer than men?” As women have some natural physical advantages, they live longer than men. But there are some more reasons than just the typical riskier behavior men have including smoking and drinking alcohol.
Infact, Due to estrogen production, women are protected from heart disease for a longer period in life. The reason why women age slower than men is the biological difference that is, from birth itself women have longer telomeres. Even scientists have understood the importance of telomeres in health.
At the coming North American Menopause Society Annual Meeting , Dr Elissa Epel from the University of California is ready to provide a detailed look at the factors that modulate telomere length, which mainly focus on women’s reproductive health, hormones and mental health.
According to reports, longer telomeres predict less cardiovascular disease and it can give longer life for both men and women.Dr. Epel said that “Some experimental studies suggest estrogen exposure increases the activity of telomerase, the enzyme that can protect and elongate telomeres,” Even she warns that the telomeres can be shortened because of stress and chronic psychological adversity.
