Shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the second round of the French Open on Wednesday. Saina outclassed Japan’s Saena Kawakami 21-11 21-11 in women’s single event. Kidambi Srikanth beat Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong 21-19 21-13 in the men’s single event.
In the next round, Saina’s opponent may be either 2017 World champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan or Beatriz Corrales of Spain. Kidambi Srikanth will face Lee Dong Keun of Korea.
Indian mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost narrowly 22-24 21-18 19-21 to husband wife combination of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock of England.
In the Men’s doubles, Manu Attri and Sameer Reddy defeated Min Hyuk Kang and Kim Won Ho 21-18 21-17 of Korea.
