MC Mary Kom stormed into the finals of World Boxing Championship on Thursday. The 35- year old boxer entered the 48 kg finals of Women’s World Boxing Championship after beating North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi.
The five time world champion entered the event with a remarkable tally of five gold medals and a silver medal and she is one of the most successful woman puglists in the history of the event.
The champion edged closer to a historic sixth gold when she beat North Korean in the semi-finals of the Women’s Championship. The boxer had previously won the gold in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 editions of the World Championships.
Mary Kom who beat her opponent in a unanimous decision of the five judges in the semi finals will lock horns with Hanna Okhota of Ukraine in the finals.
Mary Kom, who is still tied with the Irish legend Katie Taylor (five gold and a bronze) in the number of medals, has an opportunity to become the most successful women’s boxer if she beats the Ukrainian in the finals.
