Mary Kom created history by clinching sixth gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship on Saturday at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Mary Kom defeated Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota in an unanimous 5-0 decision in the 48 kg flyweight category.
With this Mary Kom became the most successful boxer in the history of Women’s World Championship. The 35-year old boxer had won gold in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and a silver in 2001 editions of Women’s World Boxing Championship.
Mary Kom was tied at five gold medals with Irish star Katie Taylor. Now she share the record with Cuban legend Felix Savon who also won six gold medals at the World Championships.
While talking about her achievement Mary Kom expressed her joy, “ I want to dedicate the medal to all the people behind my hard work . I dedicate my Gold to my nation”.
