Consuming green leaves, red vegetables, berry fruits and drinking orange juice may be related to the lower risk of memory loss in men over time.
As per the recent study, published in the Journal of Neurology, adding these foods to the daily diet lowers the risk of memory loss in men. The study looked at 27,842 men with an average age of 51 who were all health professionals. In the beginning of the study, participants were asked to fill out some questionnaires about the daily consumption of fruits, vegetables and other foods and then the fruits and vegetables they had for last 20 years. They were divided into groups on the basis of vegetable intake.
The group who ate the highest amount of vegetables ate around six servings per day, compared to around two servings for the lowest group. For fruits, the highest group ate about three servings per day, compared to half a serving for the bottom group
The researchers also tested partcipants’ thinking and memory skills atleast four years before the end of the study, when they were an average age of 73. The researchers found out that the men who consumed more fruits and vegetables in the beginning of the study is likely to develop lower risk of memory problems in later life.
The men who ate the most vegetables were 34 percent less likely to develop poor thinking skills than the men who ate least vegetables. The men who drank orange juice every day were 47 percent less likely to develop poor thinking skills.
