The US consulate in Mexico’s Guadalajara was attacked with grenades on Friday. The incident happened hours before the visit of the Vice President and first daughter Ivanka Trump for attending the swearing in ceremony of new Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Saturday .
Officials from US and Mexico are investigating the grenade explosion.
No one was killed and no injuries were reported in the attack. The incident took place around 7:30 Friday evening.
The sources said that a person threw an explosive device at the building and ran away . Grenade was found at the spot. The suspect was caught in the security camera.
“The consulate was closed at the time and there were no injuries,”. “U.S. and Mexican authorities are investigating. We will provide further information (including about consular operations) as it becomes available.” said the consular officials in a statement.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador sworn in as the Mexican President on Saturday. The 65 year old swept the Presidential polls over 50 percent votes in July. He was previously the Mayor of Mexico city.
