
Sunil Arora takes charge as the Chief Election Commissioner of India on Sunday. He succeeded O P Rawat who retired on Saturday.
Sunil Arora, a 1980 IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre has served in various key positions for both Central government and Rajasthan government. He was working as the Skill development secretary before he was appointed as the top bureaucrat in the Information & Broadcasting ministry.
From 2005 to 2008 he was the principal secretary of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje during her earlier term. Arora was appointed as the Election Commissioner in September 2017.
The Election Commission under his supervision will conducts the upcoming elections including Loksabha elections and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Haryana, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh which is to be held in 2019.
