After an interval of three years, a big flight landed at Calicut International Airport. Saudi Airlines from Jeddah landed at Karipur airport with 211 passengers on Wednesday around 11: 05 am.
The Airport Authorities welcomed the flight with a water salute. MPs arranged a warm welcome to the passengers.
The Airport Authority of India(AAI) had suspended the landing of wide bodied flights since 2015 due to renovation works in runway. The suspension of big flight services from Karipur Airport has triggered controversies and protests. Now the restart of these services will be a relief for NRI’s espeially for the expats from Malabar region. People’s representatives had met the airport officials to remove the ban imposed on the operations of wide bodied flights.
Air India has not yet started its operations. Saudi Airlines would provide its services from Calicut to Jeddah on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. And it would also operate flights from Calicut to Riyadh on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
