Sahitya Akademi announced its 2018 awards in 24 languages. Seven collections of poetry, six novels, six short story collections, three works of literary criticism and two collections of essays won the Sahitya Akademi Awards.
The poets who won for their collection of poetry includes S. Ramesan Nair in Malayalam, Paresh Narendra Kamat in Konkani, Sananta Tanti in Assamese and Dr Rama Kant Shukla in Sanskrit.
Sanjib Chattopadhyay in Bengali, Mushtaq Ahmed Mushtaq in Kashmiri and Prof Bina Thakur in Maithili are some of the short story writers who won the prestigious award.
Writers who won the award in novel category includes Anees Salim in English, Chitra Mudgal in Hindi and Inderjeet Kesar in Dogri,
The awards were announced based on the recommendations of jury members in respective languages. The Akademi also stated that the awards will be presented at a road show function in January 2019 at New Delhi.
The prestigious literary award comprises of a copper plaque and cheque of Rs.1 lakh.
