Atleast 12 people killed in the political clashes in voting day in Bangladesh on Sunday. The election went through a very tense situation after weeks long campaigning which saw violence and allegations of a government crackdown on opposition activities.
Three were killed by the security personnels, while eight were killed in the fight between supporters ruling Awami League and Bangladesh National Party (BNP). An officer were also killed after being attacked by the group of armed persons.
The voting which started on 8 am ended at 4 pm. The results will be announced within 24 hours. A total of 1,848 candidates contested for 299 out of 300 Parliament seats .
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expecting a fourth term in power, as her rival Ex-Prime Minister and BNP Chief Khalid Zia has been jailed on charges of corruption since February 2018. Khalid Zia has co-ordinated the election campaigns of her party being in jail.
Mobile internet services were suspended till Sunday midnight to avoid the spread of rumours. Around 6,00,000 security officials were depolyed across the country.
