Banking services are likely to hit on January 8th and 9th as bank employees will go on nation-wide two day strike. The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) informed Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) of the two day strike, in support of the nation wide strike call given by the 10 trade unions against Central government’s anti- worker policy.
In a stock filing, Allahabad bank said, “Therefore, if the strike takes place, the functioning of branches of the bank may be affected. The bank is taking all the necessary steps in terms of the existing guidelines for smooth functioning of bank’s branches/offices on the day of strike(s), in the event the strike materialises.”
The banking services were affected when branches of state-run banks across the country went on strike against the proposed merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena bank with Bank of Baroda on December 26th. The strike was called by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) under which about 1 million employees of various banks are included.
