Kerala has already emerged a financial loss of Rs.5000 Crore just within ten days of 2019. With the hartal called by Sabarimala Karma Samithi on January 3rd and the general strike called by trade unions on January 8th and 9th has brought losses of Rs. 5000 cr to the state.The hartal of January 3rd has destroyed many public and private properties.
The hartals affected the Tourism and IT sector in the state. In a single day, the government and private sectors lost around 120-200 crore in salary category. Business establishments has largely affected due to the frequent hartals.
Due to this the members of trade associations has declared that they won’t support hartal and begun to resist the shutdowns.

If the working of Cochin Special Economic Zone is suspended for a single day, the companies will suffer losses around Rs.120 to Rs.130 Crore. Overall in a day of shutdown, Kerala occurs loss around Rs.1800 to 2000 crore.
However, the High Court of Kerala has ordered that the hartals should be announced seven days in advance. In the previous year, Kerala has witnessed 97 hartals and it has adversely affected the economy of the state.
