After a long time, the Rajinified effect has come back from Karthik Subbaraj’s direction in Superstar Rajinikanth’s starrer “Petta”. The movie also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui,Trisha ,Simran and Vijay Sethupathi in prominent roles.
The film is a revenge drama with action and emotions which reminds Superstar Rajinikanth of the films he did in initial stage of his career, but it doesn’t hold as a complete Rajini film like Baasha, Padayappa, Aburvaragangal. Though the movie goes with much action sequences, the director has balanced it as a good entertainer. The missing factor in this is the mass dialogues that usually every Rajini fan expects.
The action film Petta talks about the story of Kaali,Rajinikanth’s character as a hostel warden.Soon he becomes the favourite person for the students, but at the same time he always mentions about the dark side within him.The romantic sequences with Simran is visually pleasant to the audience.
The second half of the movie talks about the flashback in Kaali’s life. Sasikumar,Vijay Sethupathy, Bobby Simha, Trisha has done justice to their characters. Nawazuddin’s character could have given a bit more bashing qualities of villain which might take out the best in him.
The locations which all the segments shot is attractive. The background score is somehow good but the songs doesn’t get deep into the audience. The whole film goes in a predictable manner but when it comes to the climax ,an unexpected twists makes the audience stunned. Overall Petta is a mass entertainer and a superstar film which is worth for three hours.
