On Friday, 129 Indian students were jailed in US for enrolling in fake university. American authorities alleged that as many as 130 foreigners were enrolled in the fake university to stay back in United States.
However, the lawyers representing students claim that they were not aware of the “pay to stay” university visa scam. The varsity in Detroit Farmington Hills was a part of the undercover operation by US Department of Homeland Security which is designed to expose immigration fraud.
The authorities alleged that the students knowingly enrolled in the fake university to stay back in USA . The immigration attorneys said that the students were not aware of the fake university and blamed the authoritites for using trouble methods to trap them for profits.
While the Ministry of External Affairs headed by Sushma Swaraj are giving top priority to the students trapped in US. Even the Ministry has opened a helpline for the queries on the status of the arrested students .
“We are aware of the incident. We are ascertaining more details (through) our embassy in Washington and different consulates in the US…We have also mobilised the Indian community organisations in the US to extend all possible support to the Indian students who are affected by this incident,” said MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
